Speaker 1:

Did you know that research shows 70% of people experience envy when someone around them becomes successful? Yes, that's right. I know it's not really shocking, but I mean, 70% of people is a lot percent of people, is a lot more than half of us might you know in a secret feel resentful when others achieve what we desire. But here is the thing success, while it brings admiration, also brings its fair share of envy. It's a paradox. Paradox, you know. It feels amazing to succeed, but the reactions from others can be complex and even overwhelming. In today's episode, guys, we are gonna dive deep into why true success attracts both support and envy, and how you can rise above these mixed emotions. Hi guys, my name is Fabio from Journey to Success and welcome.

Speaker 1:

Success is not just about achieving personal goals, all right. It's about how it affects everyone around you your friends, family and colleagues. As you grow and achieve more, you're going to likely notice an interesting shift. So some people start cheering you on, while others become distant or even envious. So this is something almost everyone faces at some point. In fact, true success often brings out two extreme reactions. People either admire your achievements or resent them In a secret, mostly Because you know there are also coward people around us, so you don't see them. But why is that? Why does success spark such strong emotions? Today, we're going to explore these dynamics. I'm gonna help you to understand how success changed relationships, both for the better and for the worse. We're going to also discuss how you can navigate these feelings, both from others and within yourself. But before to go forward, as always, please subscribe. So I know this is the right direction to drive you, to guide you, to lead you towards your journey to success. Let's go forward. Let's go forward.

Speaker 1:

So if you have ever achieved something great, you know whether it's a personal milestone, a career achievement or any kind of success, you are going to probably experience both admiration and criticism. It might seem strange at first. You know, when a person celebrates your success while another cuts you down, this can be confusing and frustrating. After all, you work hard to get where you are. Come on. So why do some people feel intimidated or envious of your success? Often, these reactions arise from insecurity. First of all, your accomplishments as a reminder of their own struggles, which you know can stir feelings of jealousy. On the other hand… those who truly support you will be happy for your success and will cheer you on. But the balance between admiration and resentment is really fragile. So it is important to recognize that this is not personal. It's natural right. It's a natural part of the human experience. We are all human beings here. So understanding this can help you deal with negative reactions more effectively and appreciate the support you receive more deeply. Okay, now let's take a closer look at why support and envy arise from success.

Speaker 1:

Psychologists have long studied how people react to other's success. One key reason is social comparison theory. So this theory suggests that people measure their own worth by comparing themselves to others. When someone reaches a goal that others haven't, it can lead to feelings of inadequacy or even hostility. So this doesn't mean these people are bad or malicious. You know, it's not about that. It just means they are grappling with their own internal struggles, often tied to their perception of success.

Speaker 1:

There is more, of course, to it. Societal pressures and media create unrealistic expectations. We often believe that success is a zero-sum game, you know, where one person's success equals someone else's failure. This mindset, of course, fuels envy, and the truth is, success doesn't need to come at anyone else's expenses. Okay, your success doesn't diminish someone else's potential or opportunities, and there are so many opportunities in this world, so it cannot cannot diminish it. On the other end, genuine support comes from a place of abundance, so where people understand this, so there is enough success to go around right. So when others genuinely support you, it means they see your achievement as a reflection of what's possible for them. So this kind of support is empowering and creates a positive ripple effect A positive ripple effect.

Speaker 1:

One of the challenges in dealing with success is knowing how to respond to both support and envy. So often people don't know how to handle the negative emotions that arise when others react poorly to their success Can be tough, can be really tough To stay, you know, focused and grounded when surrounded by people who might not have your best interest. So the key is literally to maintain perspective. So when faced with envy, remind yourself that it says more about the other person's feeling than it does about your world. So it's not about you. On the flip side, always value the genuine support you receive and cultivate those relationships. They are the ones who will lift you up in times of struggle and celebrate your victories with you guys.

Speaker 1:

Let me tell you a story that always inspires me now. So it's about sylvester stallone. You know sylvester stallone and how rocky came to life. And uh, well, before stallone became the star we all know today, he was strangling. Of course, we were strangling badly, and he was broke, couldn't pay the rent, and things got so tough that he had to sell his dog. You know, I think maybe you know the story he had to sell the dog because he couldn't afford to feed him. I cannot even imagine how difficult that must have been, truly, but here's what really gets me.

Speaker 1:

So, no matter how hard things got, stallone refused to give up on his dream. So he wrote the script for Rocky in just three days. You know the story he always says to us. You know, studios love the script. They were ready to pay good money for it, but they didn't want Stallone to star in it. They want to cast someone else, someone famous. Most people might have taken the deal. I mean, he needed money, right, but Stallone, nay, most people might have taken the deal. I mean, he needed money, right, but Stallone, nay, he said no, he believed in himself that much. Eventually, the studio gave him you know the rule, let him play the rule. And, as we know, rocky became a massive hit Three Academy Awards and just like that, stallone was a star.

Speaker 1:

But let's go back to our point why I'm saying to you this story. You know the story right. Any of us know the story. What we don't know, what you don't know for sure, is that the part we don't always hear about it basically is that with all that success, he noticed something shift, so some of his close friends started to pull away, so he could sense the envy they get it. You know, sometimes when we achieve something big, the people closest to us can feel left behind. It's normal, we're human. Anyway, the story really stuck with me, so it's a reminder that success can bring out all kinds of emotions in the people around us Also. Good people, yeah, good human beings, guys. So don't be angry with them, it's normal.

Speaker 1:

But, just like Stallone, I believe it's important to stay grounded, you know, stay empathetic and understand that sometimes it's not about us Actually, maybe it's not about us at all. It's about what they're going through. You know their past, their fear, how the past impacted towards their path, you know. So, to recap, true success is a double-edged sword. It attracts both admiration and envy.

Speaker 1:

While support from others is uplifting, envy can be painful, of course. However, it's crucial to understand that envy is often rooted in personal struggles, fears or insecurities. So success doesn't diminish others. It can inspire them too. So by recognizing you know all these dynamics, you can better navigate your relationships and stay focused on your journey. So embrace the support, the support you receive, and approach envy with empathy. That's the only thing you have to do, guys, in this case. In this way, you also have a good energy to go forward. You know on the path you are following right now. So remember your success doesn't define anyone else's world, and there is always room for more success in the world.

Speaker 1:
